Term 3 SWPBS Focus - Resilience

Kindness, Responsibility, Resilience.

School Vision:

Our school’s vision is to prepare young people to become active, engaged and responsible citizens of the local and global community.

  • We will provide a safe, calm and welcoming learning environment where every child is treated as an individual.
  • We will develop children who have a strong relationship to school and their community. The children will have a sense of self & understand how they learn.
  • We will build and support an open, healthy and welcoming community that is visible in its practical support for the learning and wellbeing of each child. Children will be encouraged to embrace and celebrate difference and they will experience positive interactions with adults.
  • We aim to foster a love of and for our natural environment and nurture a strong sense of stewardship within our students.  Eppalock PS prioritises environmental sustainability.

Week 6 Term 3 2022

I was surprised with a presentation on Friday for Principals Day.  I was moved by the kind words from some of our students and the lovely class books I was given.  It seems that most of my day is made up of singing and dancing around the school and one day having a chance to win a dancing world title.  Thanks to teachers and classes for organising the presentation and the kind sentiments from our school community.  I believe Eppalock PS is in a good place at the moment due to the great work and support from everyone who contributes to our school.

Last week was our final gym session at Jetts gym.  Students seem to have enjoyed the time we have had, and it has been great to see the growth in confidence on the different apparatus.  Most pleasing has been the positive manner in which our students continue to present themselves during these types of activities out in the public.  Each week we observed our school values on display with lots of support and encouragement of each other.  We aim to have the Jetts program as an annual event during term 3 when the weather a bit colder.  It provides activities and equipment not possible in our school setting.  We source funding for this program through the sporting schools program each year which covers the cost of transport and sessions.

We continue to be involved in a range of extra activities throughout the term with the aim of providing students with some engaging, motivating and enjoyable events to support their wellbeing and classroom learning.  Some of the special events we have coming up include; the Music is Fun day on Friday August 26th.  Tree planting day on Friday 2nd September, Bookweek Dress up day on Wednesday September 7th and we also have another excursion to Melbourne on 15th September.  It is important to regularly check educateus to ensure you are kept up to date with information and our electronic consent forms.  The electronic format aims to reduce the number of hard copy notes being sent home.

Grade 3/4 and 5/6 have their Positive Start program camps in the next two weeks.  Grade 3/4 are off to Campaspe Downs on Monday 22nd-24th and Grade 5/6 are off to Halls Gap from Monday 29th-Wednesday 31st.  Students not attending these camps will have school as normal.

Reminders

  • Please ensure longer hair is tied back each day when coming to school.
  • Pie Warmer takes place every Wednesday this term. Please make sure it is clearly named.
  • Any changes to regular pick up routines are best communicated via phone and speaking directly to a staff member so that it can be recorded in the after school pick up folder. We cannot always guarantee an email will be seen in time during the day.

Covid Updates and requirements

At school we do still have some Covid requirements in place to ensure our school community stays well and healthy.  Air purifiers and hand sanitiser are still being used and it is still important for families to keep students home if they are unwell or showing symptoms.  Masks are recommended for everyone and are mandatory for any household contacts.  Families are still required to inform the school if there has been a positive case of covid.  RA tests are still being sent home for the voluntary testing process.  We thank everyone for their continued support and cooperation.

School Review Term 4

In past newsletters I have informed everyone of 2022 being a school review year for Eppalock PS.  Thanks to those who have contributed some feedback about the highlights of the last 4 years, we are still taking this feedback if anyone would like to send some along.  This Friday after assembly I am offering an opportunity for a parent forum where the group can explore a couple of questions about the progress of the school.  I would love to have as much input as possible.  We will start at approx. 930am and it will go for no longer than 20 mins.  If you can’t make this day but are interested in having some input, please contact the school and let us know.  The dates for our school review will be Monday October 10th, 17th and Wednesday 19th.

HDFL Clean up

Thanks to those who have offered to help on the clean up day after the HDFNL Grand Final.  We do still need some more help if you are available.  Funds raised on this day will contribute to reducing the cost of the Grade 3-6 camp this year.  If this becomes an annual fundraiser the aim is to continue to allocate the funds to this area. Clean up day is Sunday September 4th, it is Fathers Day, but should only take a couple of hours if we have enough helpers on the day.

School Items for removal

If you would like a large worm farm for your property please let us know.  We have one at school that can be taken away.  We still have some old awnings that can also be taken by a family if it suited.

2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.  This year is a School Review year so we hope we can get as many completed surveys as possible.

Each year we have invited all families to participate in the survey to ensure open and honest results which are a true reflection of the school.  A high number of responses enables the school to set meaningful targets and actions for improvement.  We are hoping to get close to 100% family participation in 2022.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.  The link to the survey can be found on educateus.
