Term 4 SWPBS Focus - Kindness

Respect, Responsibility, Resilience.

School Vision:

Our school’s vision is to prepare young people to become active, engaged and responsible citizens of the local and global community.

  • We will provide a safe, calm and welcoming learning environment where every child is treated as an individual.
  • We will develop children who have a strong relationship to school and their community. The children will have a sense of self & understand how they learn.
  • We will build and support an open, healthy and welcoming community that is visible in its practical support for the learning and wellbeing of each child. Children will be encouraged to embrace and celebrate difference and they will experience positive interactions with adults.
  • We aim to foster a love of and for our natural environment and nurture a strong sense of stewardship within our students.  Eppalock PS prioritises environmental sustainability.

Well done to all students for the way they have been able to come back to school after the holiday break.  All classes were very settled and back into their classroom routines.  Unfortunately we had a few more wet days to contend with which restricts the break time activities.  With everything so wet we continually have to close off games from the oval, which is disappointing as it has a great grass cover on it.

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the 5/6 students who attended the voluntary outdoor education camping experience this year.  It was shortened to just the one night due to the weather on the Wednesday, however they were all out there on Thursday and Friday enjoying and learning about the environment they were in.  A huge thanks to Latrobe University and Mr McCartney who continue to foster this connection for our school.  This experience aligns strongly with our school vision and values and it is a privilege for us to be able to offer this for our students on the voluntary basis at very minimal cost.  Mr McCartney spent a great deal of time organising and planning for the many variables of this type of camp.  We thank Mr Mc for all of the additional time spent on this experience.  Thanks also to Miss S and Chris who attended.  Check out the photos on Facebook.  Here are just a few.

Our Anglesea camp is coming up in November.  We should be able to provide a final cost for the camp in the next week or so.  Thanks for your patience with this.  This confirmation is made a little more difficult when organising and sharing a camp with another school.

As we move into the changing weather in term 4 it is important that families check that school has the most updated medical plans, asthma puffers, specific dietary requirements or signed consent for giving medication at school.  Documentation around these important areas is vital for the school to have in any emergency situation.  If you haven’t checked in for a while about these things, or something has changed recently, please contact the school or send an updated document along.

Also in term 4 students require an Eppalock PS broad brimmed hat to wear outside.  We have almost had 100% at school which has been a great start.  The school offers an Eppalock PS school hat to purchase as part of the uniform.  Please ensure your child has one of these for term 1 & 4 each year.  Caps and other broad brimmed styled hats should not be worn.

Please also check in with your child about their school uniform.  Usually a school uniform order will go out around this time of year in preparation for the following year.  We understand that from time to time students may need to wear alternative clothes to school, and we would prefer that happening to the child not being at school at all, however we do ask that students are wearing the Eppalock PS school uniform to school each day when they can.  Green polo top, black shorts or black tracksuit pants, school dress are all part of the uniform.  There are many second hand items at school which have been donated back to the school if you need any items for your child.

This week when the 5/6 students were away we had some Grade 4 students show some great leadership and organise a school assembly.  This was done without being asked which was amazing.  They did a great job on Friday morning leading the school.  Well done Lexi, Ned and Jacob!  Showed fantastic responsibility and confidence to speak in front of the rest of the school and some adults. Here are a couple of photos of them on the day.

Monday the 10th October and Wednesday the 19th October are our school review days.  We have had a couple of families volunteer to speak with the panel on the 19th which is great.  If you would like a chance to speak with the panel about the past 4 years at Eppalock, whether you have been here for 1 year, 2 years, 4 years or even 6 months, you are most welcome.  Contact the school and we can arrange a time either on Monday afternoon or Wednesday morning.

You will also have noticed a school survey about food items at school.  The link has been provided on ueducateus.  Thanks to those who have already completed it, it takes about 2 minutes but will provide some good information to take back to school council.

I will aim to run breakfast club again this week and start on Tuesday morning to see what interest we have.  If your child has any specific dietary requirements that means they can or can’t have certain foods please ensure this documentation is at school.  Basic breakfast club foods are a mix of toast, cereal, milk, fruit and occasionally baked beans.  Sometimes we have some late comers to breakfast club – at this stage we have not asked for consent, and will provide breakfast to any who walk in, if you do not want your child to be part of the breakfast club please let me know at school.

Reminders

  • Please ensure longer hair is tied back each day when coming to school.
  • There will be no pie warmer this term.
  • Any changes to regular pick up routines are best communicated via phone and speaking directly to a staff member so that it can be recorded in the after school pick up folder. We cannot always guarantee an email will be seen in time during the day.
  • Staff duty of care begins at 8:45am in the morning. Breakfast club will start this Tuesday the 11th October and run from 8:15am-8:45am.
  • Hats are required for term 4.

School Items for removal

We still have a large worm farm which is available at school for anyone that would like to take it away.  Free of charge.

We also have some awnings at the back of the school which can be claimed at any stage.

Enrolments for 2023

It is not too late to enrol at Eppalock PS for 2023.  Please contact the school for an individual tour or more information.

If your family may be leaving the school in 2023 please also let the school know as early as possible as it assists with staff planning.
