Values Education

Eppalock Primary School offers explicit Social Education sessions each week with a dedicated allotment of time each Monday.

These lessons integrate Social & Emotional Learning which is scaffolded to students social and emotional needs. Student explore a range of social and emotional skills which are explicitly taught in relation to the School Values; Kindness, Resilience, Respect and Responsibility. Students develop an understanding of these values and their application in a school setting.

These lessons integrate the use of the Respectful Relationships Program to develop students Social & Emotional Intelligence and explicitly teach skills such as; developing and maintaining healthy relationships, resilience, dealing with arguments as well as the regulation of strong emotions and confidence.

Underlining these programs is our School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework.

School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together our school and community to develop positive, safe, supportive learning culture.

SWPBS assists Eppalock Primary School to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for all of our students.

The implementation of SWPBS into our school began in 2019. All staff, students and the community were involved in the development of SWPBS and our chosen school values. As we develop the framework further, students and staff continue to improve and benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
  • a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance
