Book Week Parade- Friday, August 31st
Although Sue Gentry is away, we are still very excited to celebrate Book Week and will have our annual parade on Friday August 23rd. We will have a parade in the morning followed by activities in each classroom centred around Book Week! Dig through the dress up box and come as your favourite character. We encourage families to not purchase items for the parade, we would love to see some created pieces from things already within your homes. We would love to see not just the students, but parents and younger siblings get involved as well. So feel free to come dressed up on the morning for our parade in the Serenity Garden followed by pictures.
Bike Hike is Back- Permission Note on UeducateUs
On Friday 30th August Grade 3-6 can participate in a Bike Hike from Longlea to Axedale and back (approx. 16km). Any 3-6’s not participating in the Bike Hike will come to school on the day and can participate in a Wheely Fun Day with a scooter if they prefer.
To ensure that students are able to feel successful on the day - please have a think about and discuss with your child whether they will be able to complete the ride - approximately 8km each way with breaks along the way and lunch at the Campaspe River. Please consider if your child will be able to ride this distance, as the options for pick up mid-ride are limited. There are lots of stops on the way, it is a flat ride 8km one way. Most students should be able to complete this if they would like to - also ensure your child’s bike is in good riding condition for the ride. Children must have a geared bike - BMX's and kids bikes are not appropriate for this ride as the children tire too quickly.
Your child, with bike and helmet will need to be dropped off at the O’Keefe Rail Trail at Peppercorn Park on Longlea Lane at 9am on Friday 30th August and picked up at 2.30 from the same spot.
We will begin riding at 9.30am and return at 2.30pm.
Parents are welcome to ride with their child – please let us know if you are coming along in comments on the permission note, the more the merrier! You will need to have supplied the school with a copy of a current Working With Children Check prior to the day.
Community Help
If anyone is interested in helping out with making and painting sets and props, please send me an email. We’re planning on doing regular sessions on Fridays after assembly (most likely in the Art Shed – TBC) for the next few weeks, starting this Friday 16th. If Fridays don’t suit, there’s also the option to delegate certain items and people could pop in at a time that suits them to work on it.
There will also be other jobs we’d love help with e.g. catering, costume support, prompt, props/backstage, set up & clean up so if any of those appeal, please let me know!
Smoking Ceremony
We have been involved in the Koorie Curriculum Cluster Project since last year. As part of this project, we are working closely with our Registered Aboriginal Parties and the Dja Dja Wurrung. On Monday the 26th at 9AM, there will be a Smoking Ceremony here at EPS. While there will be more details to come, we would love to have our community on site for the day.
HDFNL Clean Up- Sunday September 8th
This year, we are participating in the Heathcote District Football Netball League Grand Final Clean Up Day. This day occurs after the Grand Final is played at the Huntly Football and Netball grounds and generally takes around 1-2 hours to clean up from the Grand Final. We will begin the clean-up at 8AM. This year, the money used from the day will go towards supporting our musical production.
