Term 4, Week 7, 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL - TERM 4, WEEK 7, 2025

Family Survey

Below is a link and a QR code that is designated to seek parent input into three distinct aspects of school life at EPS. We would love to know about various aspects at our school, specifically volunteering, the physical school grounds and student reports. We are asking all families to complete the survey as this will help inform decision making and support the development of a plan to improve our grounds.

Movember

Thanks to the families who have donated for this cause already, it is appreciated. Together we can make a difference for men's health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Help me stop men dying too young. Although my wife and children are not overly enthused by the new moustache, it is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for a great cause. If you can donate, please use the QR code to donate to this cause.

Student Pick Up- Duty of Care

If parents are requesting their child be taken home by another family, the school must be informed of this. Please ensure that you have rung the school and informed us of any changes of student pick up.

Thanks Jolie and Kayla

A quick shout out and thanks to Jolie and Kayla who came and did some weeding around the school, it is very much appreciated.

Report Writing Day- Monday 1st

In two weeks, we are having a student free day for report writing.

Sound Story Showcase- Friday at 2:30PM

What a fun and great experience for our students. The students did a fantastic job on Friday afternoon, performing with confidence and delivering a wonderful showcase of sound exploration in a theatrical way. Well done to all the students and thanks to all the families who came along for the afternoon and stuck around to help pack up! Great job Tan coordinating the show, another great show as always!

Lost Property

Our lost property tub is filling up, it is opposite Nikki’s office near the staff toilets. We will place it out on Friday afternoon for parents to have a look through.

2026 Student Leadership Process

On last Friday, we met as a team to begin looking forward to 2026 and student leadership positions. We are having the speeches take place on Friday, December 5th for students and staff. We look forward to hearing speeches from all of our Grades Four and Five students. There are changes to the process this year and we spoke on Friday about this.

Students wishing to run for a House Captain are no longer linked to their previous house. This means all house captains are in the running to take on a position of house captain regardless of their current house placement. All House Captains are placed in one pool and their speeches are delivered to the entire student body, following the same process as School Captains. Performing Arts will follow this format as well.

Over the past few weeks, our current student leaders have spent time creating role and responsibility statements. All captains contributed to these and have done a terrific job in the creation of these.

School Captain (written by Charlotte and Eadie)

Role: The School Captain is a leader and role model within the Eppalock Primary School community. Captains represent the school with pride, support staff and students, and help make our school a positive and respectful place for everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Be a positive role model for younger students.
  • Show and promote all of our school values – Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Kindness.
  • Present assembly each Friday, including reading the Acknowledgement of Country
  • Represent the school on excursions, special events, and community occasions.
  • Attend all EPS events, such as sports days.
  • Take time during Thursday lunchtimes to prepare and organise the weekly assembly.
  • Coordinate and run ceremonies such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day at EPS.
  • Help celebrate student achievements by reading out class awards, birthday awards, and any other announcements from staff.
  • Take potential families on school tours around EPS.

As a School Captain, your weekly and special duties include:

  • Creating and updating the assembly PowerPoint each week.
  • Preparing and presenting birthday and class awards.
  • Speaking confidently in front of the school at assemblies and special events.
  • Attending and participating in events such as:
    • ANZAC Day Ceremony (Melbourne and local events)
    • GRIP Leadership Conference
    • Radio interviews or other public appearances
    • School sporting days – Athletics, Cross Country, etc.
    • Community activities such as the Tree Planting Day or Writers Festival

House Captain (written by Leisel, Finn and Huey)

Role: To be a house captain at Eppalock means to be a leader, not just of one house, but to be someone who can be a leader even when no one is looking. You should be able to show all four school values at all times, be someone the teachers can rely on and be ready to face challenges whenever they arise.

Responsibilities

There are lots of smaller things you might have to help with, but some of the more important ones are:

  • PA cards every Thursday
  • Running sports
  • Keeping the sports shed organised
  • Being at school events (specifically cross country and athletics)
  • Participate in sports
  • Help the school captains
  • ANZAC day and Remembrance Day organising and ceremonies
  • Speak at assembly
  • Go to any school leader events
  • Use your lunch times for planning

There are more, so just remember that as a house captain you need to be ready for them!

Performing Arts Captain (written by Charlie)

Role:
As Performing Arts Captain, my job is to help promote and celebrate the creative arts at our school. I support music, drama and dance activities, and encourage others to get involved and have fun performing. I also help the Performing Arts teacher with events, assemblies, and performances throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a positive role model by showing confidence, teamwork, and enthusiasm in all Performing Arts activities.
  • Hosting music ‘On the Deck’ and finding someone else to help host
  • Help set up and pack up equipment for concerts, assemblies, ‘On the Deck’ and rehearsals, this includes Wednesday lunch time set up for Thursday practice.
  • Speak at assemblies (this also includes presenting the Going Green awards for Times Table Rockstars) or concerts to introduce performances or share Performing Arts news, such as where and when the Possum Tragics are performing or providing a quick recount of a show.
  • Help create posters, announcements, or displays to promote Performing Arts events
  • Showcasing our school values at all times

TERM 4, WEEK 7, 2025 Parent Community News

Wellbeing

Hi All,

The kids are well and truly settled in and ready for an exciting final term for 2025!

In wellbeing, the classrooms are diving back into Respectful Relationships, and are focusing on Positive Coping, where students develop language around coping, critically reflect on their coping and strategies and extend their repertoire of positive coping strategies.

While we have moved on from Friendology this term, we will revisit some components throughout the term, and when the need arises. We encourage families to do the same! A great one to know and to talk about is Friendship Fires: those little disagreements that can be normal in a healthy friendship (even as adults!). Grades 2-6 have explored this, and use this language often to talk about conflicts that happen in the yard.

You can read a great blog post about it here:

https://urstrong.com/resource/friendship-fire-or-mean-on-purpose/

There is also a fantastic visual that explains some strategies for Friendship Fires and Mean on Purpose:

Until next time!
