Term 3 Week 9 2023

FROM THE PRINCIPAL Term 3 Week 9

Tree Planting day

On Friday the 8th of September we are having our Tree Planting Day. This year we are planting at a site near Axedale and will be planting 300 indigenous trees, shrubs and ground covers to contribute to the biodiversity of the Campaspe Catchment.

The day will begin onsite at 10am and finish with a BBQ lunch for everyone.

The details of the day are as follows:

9am: Short Assembly at school

9.15am Bus will be leave school.

BYO: mallet, long handled spade, water, hats, sturdy shoes, snacks for recess.  School will provide gloves & trowels

Location: Backhaus Rd Axedale

2.30pm: approx return to school OR children can go home with their family from the site as long as they are ticked off by their teacher.

Cost: $5 per student to cover costs for the day (please pay via My School Connect) but please provide permission here.

There are a few things we need help with on the day if possible:

Helpers! We love adult helpers – if you are coming along on the day there is parking for cars onsite or on the road.
Tools – mallets and spades for adults to use.
A cook or two for the BBQ would be very handy (Toyota unavailable this year) – please let me know if you can help with this.
If your child already has a blue Tree Day t-shirt – can they please wear it on the day or send it back to school prior to the day, to give to another student. We can’t guarantee that every child will have a t-shirt that fits – but Lydia will try really hard to make it happen!
Could you please let Lydia know if you are coming – via email so that we can cater for everyone.

Geology Excursion

Lydia has organised a geology excursion for grades 3-6 to celebrate our unit learning about geology. The day will include a visit to both the Hanson Quarries – sand and bluestone and the Fosterville gold mine.

The details of the day are as follows:

Date: Monday September 11th

9am: leave school

BYO: recess, lunch, drink bottle

Location: Axedale & surrounds

Return: to school by approx 2pm

Cost: $13 per student to cover costs for the day (please pay via My School Connect) but please provide permission via Permission Slip on UEducateUs.

State Field Hockey Finals

On Thursday, students are travelling to Footscray for the State Field Hockey Finals. We are really excited for these students and wish them all the best as they represent EPS in a state-wide tournament. Good luck!

Wooden Circles

We are seeking any parents or family members who work with wood and can provide circular shaped wooden cut off that can be used to hang around the school. We are trying to enhance the natural play space look of the school and we were hoping to paint the circular shaped discs with the letters of the alphabet first and many other ideas. If you can donate any wooden discs (anywhere from 15-30 centimetres in diameter), please contact the school.

OSHC Program

We are in the process on waiting for the Department of Education to finalise the transfer process of OHSC providers. Unfortunately, this means that it is unable to operate until the transfer process is complete. Once we have received more information about the transfer process, it will be passed on immediately to the community. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes.

Parent Opinion Survey

We are still seeking feedback into the operations of EPS via the Parent Opinion Survey which was sent out via uEducateUs. This survey closes on Friday September 8th. We have only had about a quarter of all EPS families respond to the survey and we would love to get all families input into the school.

Last Day of Term

On Friday the 15th, we will be finishing at 1:30.

Curriculum Day- Monday October 2nd

We are having a whole school curriculum (pupil free) day on Monday October 2nd. This is the first Monday of Term Four.

Planning for 2024

We are beginning to plan for 2024 and are asking families to provide any changes in student enrolment information to the school as soon as possible.

GJSC - RUOK Day

Dear parents,

On the 14th of September we are having R U OK day. You may choose for your child to wear yellow (black or orange) if they have yellow clothing or accessories otherwise, they can wear casual clothes.

Bring a gold coin donation which will be donated to R U OK day foundation. The donations will be collected by the Green Junior School Council. Then will be donated to R U OK day foundation. When you donate to R U OK day, the money goes towards mental health. It’s mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling.
