Term 3 SWPBS Focus - Resilience
Kindness, Responsibility, Resilience.
School Vision:
Our school’s vision is to prepare young people to become active, engaged and responsible citizens of the local and global community.
Week 6 Term 3 2022
We have had very limited Covid notifications this term across our school community, however had a couple last week from adults connected to the school. There has been quite a bit of illness in various forms in the student group. Thanks to all families for your fantastic support in keeping students at home when unwell and showing symptoms. These are unusual times as we would usually be encouraging not missing a day of school. We encourage the voluntary RA testing to continue at home and recommend the use of masks to limit any spread of illness. Please continue to notify the school if there is a positive Covid case in your household and please ensure any household contacts are wearing a mask at school.
On Friday our School Captains visited the Phoenix radio station with Lydia to participate in the weekly school slot the radio provides. This is a great initiative by the station for promoting local Bendigo schools. Mr John Pearce does an amazing job in this role and it is always great to have him visit. Annemieka and Katie did a great job promoting our school and the work they do across the school. They showed confidence in the way they spoke and expressed themselves which shows how much they have grown in their role since the start of the year. Well done Mieka and Katie and thanks Lydia for taking them down this year.
We continue to be involved in a range of extra activities throughout the term with the aim of providing students with some engaging, motivating and enjoyable events to support their wellbeing and classroom learning. Some of the special events we have coming up include; the Music is Fun day on Friday August 26th. Tree planting day on Friday 2nd September, Bookweek Dress up day on Wednesday September 7th and we also have another excursion to Melbourne on 15th September. It is important to regularly check educateus to ensure you are kept up to date with information and our electronic consent forms. The electronic format aims to reduce the number of hard copy notes being sent home.
The Grade 3/4 group will be off in their Positive Start program camp on Monday 22nd. This is the first time for a while that we have had a separate 3/4 and 5/6 camp event. Grade 5/6 will be off on their adventure next Monday 29th. Please refer to the camp requisite notes sent home for suggested items to take on camp and for bus leaving and returning times.
We have our tree planting day coming up on Friday September 2nd. This tree planting day is in conjunction with the Axe Creek Landcare group and Bendigo Toyota. Axe Creek landcare group do a great job in our local community working with families to promote positive development of land and biodiversity in the area. If you would like to know how to be involved with Landcare, please contact the school. The group meets at school in the old school building throughout the year. We would love to see as many of our school community families come along on the day. Bring your own gloves and tools and hopefully you get the chance to catch up with a few people you may not have seen for a while, or meet a few new faces.
Reminders
Covid Updates and requirements
As mentioned above, we have not had many notifications of positive Covid Cases this term, however there has been quite a bit of illness around in the school community. It is still important for students to be kept at home if symptomatic to ensure the risk of illness spreading amongst students and staff is minimised. I understand this can be an inconvenience at times, however an extra day or two at home could minimise the chances of staff becoming ill and needing replacing. Thanks again to those families who are doing this already, it is very much appreciated.
School Review Term 4
We had a couple of families take home some questions for our upcoming school review in term 4. We have not yet received an overwhelming amount of feedback from families at home so there is still time to contribute. We are open to any feedback about the last 4 years, however the key questions we are asking are;
What are the highlights from the last 4 years (2018-2022)? What have been the barriers from the last 4 years (2018-2022?)
What should the school keep doing? What should the school stop doing? What should the school start doing?
There will be an opportunity for families to speak with the panel of reviewers on October 10th, 17th and 19th. If you would like to be involved keep an eye out around those dates.
HDFL Clean up
A reminder that the school will be cleaning up after the HDFNL Grand Final. This is held at the Huntly Football Ground on Sunday September 4th. Any volunteers to help are greatly appreciated, it should only take a couple of hours we are told, if we get enough helpers. We will begin early on that day to have it completed as early as possible. Our school will receive $1000 to clean up which will go towards our camping program. Helpers will need some gloves and their own tool to pick up rubbish.
School Items for removal
We still have a large worm farm which is available at school for anyone that would like to take it away.
We also have some awnings at the back of the school which can be claimed at any stage.
2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
This survey is different to the feedback we have asked for above. This is the annual parent survey for all families and contributes to overall school data. Please take the time to find the link on educate us and complete the survey.
WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. This year is a School Review year so we hope we can get as many completed surveys as possible.
Each year we have invited all families to participate in the survey to ensure open and honest results which are a true reflection of the school. A high number of responses enables the school to set meaningful targets and actions for improvement. We are hoping to get close to 100% family participation in 2022.
The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English.
Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information. The link to the survey can be found on educateus.
