Term 3 SWPBS Focus - Resilience

Kindness, Responsibility, Resilience.

School Vision:

Our school’s vision is to prepare young people to become active, engaged and responsible citizens of the local and global community.

  • We will provide a safe, calm and welcoming learning environment where every child is treated as an individual.
  • We will develop children who have a strong relationship to school and their community. The children will have a sense of self & understand how they learn.
  • We will build and support an open, healthy and welcoming community that is visible in its practical support for the learning and wellbeing of each child. Children will be encouraged to embrace and celebrate difference and they will experience positive interactions with adults.
  • We aim to foster a love of and for our natural environment and nurture a strong sense of stewardship within our students.  Eppalock PS prioritises environmental sustainability.

Week 8 Term 3 2022

I attended the Grade 3/4 Camp to Campaspe Downs last week with Miss Sherwell and 16 students.  The camp facilities were amazing with many fun and exciting activities spread over a wide area.  We shared the camp with 3 other schools and we only really saw evidence of other people during the meal times.  This camp was made possible by our involvement in the Positive Start program which gave us access for no cost at all for our school or families.  The Grade 5/6 camp next week is also part of the Positive Start program.

The students who attended were amazing and consistently displayed our school values at all times.  We had to work through some cold and challenging weather at times, however we did not hear any complaints from the students.  The camp leaders spoke highly of our group and enjoyed working with them.  It was great to observe the team work and cooperation showed at all times.  Some of the activities required students to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves so it was great to hear the support and encouragement they provided each other.

If your child went on camp, ask them, “Are you ready?”  See what they do and if they do nothing, ask them what they had to do while on camp with their group leader when he asked if they were ready.  Thanks to Miss S for attending the camp for the 3 days with me and to Lydia for dropping in for a visit on the Tuesday.  Thanks to our wonderful students for making it a positive camping experience and to those parents who took the time to pass on some positive feedback.

A reminder to Grade 5/6 families that your camp starts Monday morning.  Bus will leave at 9:00am.  There is a more detailed reminder on educateus.  Bus arrives back on Wednesday at approx. 3:00pm.

With only a few weeks remaining in the term we still have some extra-curricular activities planned.

  • Tree planting day on Friday 2nd September – see educate us for more details. Families invited to come along and make this a chance to catch up and meet some new people.  Shovel, small mallet and some sturdy shoes required for parents.
  • Bookweek Dress up day on Wednesday September 7th – students are invited to wear a costume, this is a voluntary dress up day.
  • Excursion to Melbourne Arts Centre on 15th September – notes to go on educateus shortly.

Reminders

  • Please ensure longer hair is tied back each day when coming to school.
  • Pie Warmer takes place every Wednesday this term. Please make sure it is clearly named.
  • Any changes to regular pick up routines are best communicated via phone and speaking directly to a staff member so that it can be recorded in the after school pick up folder. We cannot always guarantee an email will be seen in time during the day.
  • Staff duty of care begins at 8:45am in the morning. Breakfast club is not currently in operation.  Please do not drop your child at school too early in the mornings.

Before School Drop Off

A reminder that staff duty of care begins at 8:45am.  We are beginning to have some students regularly dropped off well before 8:30am and on some occasions are arriving at the same time as staff.  Breakfast club is not currently running due to low participation and attendance when offered.  I have spoken with the student group at assembly on Friday as sometimes students can tell parents its ok to be at school early.  If for some reason you do need to drop your child earlier than what’s been suggested, please give me a call at school to discuss options so we can work to support you with it.

Illness and attendance

Thanks to those families who have continued to support the school in this area and kept students home when showing symptoms of illness.  This can have an effect on attendance figures, however we are still in that stage where we do need to consider the health and wellbeing of our school community.  Staff are required to call home if students are showing symptoms of illness in the classroom.  We understand this can be frustrating and inconvenient for families, however it is still a requirement.  I am hopeful that illness will have less impact in Term 4.

School Review Term 4 and parent surveys

A reminder that our School Review is scheduled for October 10th, 17th and 19th at this stage.  We have not had an overwhelming response with feedback however I will make one last call for some feedback on the following questions;

What are the highlights from the last 4 years (2018-2022)?  What have been the barriers from the last 4 years (2018-2022?)

What should the school keep doing?  What should the school stop doing?  What should the school start doing?

There will be an opportunity for families to speak with the panel of reviewers.  If you would like to be involved please let us know.

HDFL Clean up

This is quickly approaching and will take place next Sunday at the Huntly football ground.  Please let the school know if you are able to help out.  Funds raised on this day will go towards our camp programs.

BUS System

In the next week, families who use the school bus may receive an email from the new Bus System being used by all DET schools.  If you are a bus user and have not received an email regarding the changes to the Bus system by Monday September 5th, please let the school know.

School Items for removal

We still have a large worm farm which is available at school for anyone that would like to take it away.

We also have some awnings at the back of the school which can be claimed at any stage.

2022 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

The DET annual parent survey is currently open with the link advertised on educateus.  Please check that out and spend 15-20 minutes providing some feedback in that survey platform.  That data is used for school reviews and improvement plans so is important for the school going forward.  It would be great if we could get around 30 responses from that survey.

This survey is different to the school review feedback.  This is the annual parent survey for all families and contributes to overall school data.  Please take the time to find the link on educate us and complete the survey.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.  This year is a School Review year so we hope we can get as many completed surveys as possible.

Each year we have invited all families to participate in the survey to ensure open and honest results which are a true reflection of the school.  A high number of responses enables the school to set meaningful targets and actions for improvement.  We are hoping to get close to 100% family participation in 2022.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.  The link to the survey can be found on educateus.
